Pilot Projects Selected For Support in 2020


The SI4DEV Partners training project graduated 25 trainees in 2019 and six proposals for Pilot projects were approved for sponsorship with between $500 - $1000. These community-driven projects range from adolescent health development, vocational skills transfer, drug use awreness, education for poor children, and agri-business skills training. These projects will be led by our selected partners, and all fall within our four impact areas of enterprise, education, health and governance.

Supported with matching funds, the generated resources will be disbursed to help accelerate partner’s social change efforts and grow their impact.

1. Vocational Skills Empowerment for 50 Plateau Youth

This project will identify and provide vocational skills training to unemployed youths and teenagers and recent school dropouts, to enhance employability and provide a skilled foundation to build them a career, therefore reducing levels of unemployment in those aged 17-30years. These young people will be empowered to believe in their dreams and to enable the acquisition of income through formal and informal job prospects so that they can support their household and families.

2. Cancer Awareness & Screening for 200 Anambra women

This project will conduct a massive awareness and education campaign on breast and cervical cancer, its warning signs with a focus on the importance of early diagnosis in treatment of cancer in the 3 selected communities. It will create a bridge between the masses and the health specialists through an advocacy visit to the hospitals for affordable screening and referrals services. The primary beneficiaries will be 200 women (18 - 60years) in Uru, Obosi and Amaenyi communities in Anambra State.

3. Support Healthy Adolescents Development in Abuja

The project will address depression and other mental health issues (substance abuse, anxiety and suicide) among Secondary School Students 13 - 19 years; promote healthy development of adolescents, protect their physical & mental health and prevent emotional and behavioural problems through training them and equipping them with problem solving skills and interpersonal skills; building self-esteem and confidence; developing coping skills to manage emotions and engaging in community services.

4. Food Security and Agric-business Skills for 20 women

The program will train 20 women in Ugwogo Nike community who are engaged in agriculture on how to convert poultry droppings to cooking energy and biofertilizer to reduce greenhouse gas and promote food security. Reports show that the marginalization of women rights and their lack of decision-making power results in high rate of poverty as women are deprived of realizing their full potential. With relevant skills, they can improve agricultural production and lift their families out of poverty.

5. Help a poor child in Nigeria stay in school

This project will take place in Farawa Community, Kano State, which has a very high rate of out of school children. A lot of these children are out of school due to being orphaned, extreme poverty, traditional beliefs and poor state of infrastructure of the schools within the community. This project seeks to empower 105 out of school children a with uniforms, sandals, and school fees so they can get back to schooling. The school will also be equipped with effective learning aids such chalk, etc.

6. Drug Awareness & Business skills for 90 Kano youths

This project will encourage youths on business enterprise and how to improve their business using skills that are innovative and feasible in their environment. These business skills will effectively build individual esteem to be independently sufficient. Being unemployed can lead to depression, low self-esteem, drug use and other mental health issues. We will emphasize the importance of good socio-economic orientation and create awareness among the youth on why they should avoid drug abuse.
